The answer is the 29th President of the United States, Warren G. Harding. Using Wikipedia to look at his biography you can look at his parents profession for the answers.

Question 2:
Early in Conrad's 1903 novella, Marlow makes a comment "one of the dark places on earth". About what place does he say this? Answer: London.
